Yes, come to class, but come practice with us too!

The mission of Iyengar Yoga Asheville is to help students of yoga progress on the path by providing the opportunity and inspiration to practice and study.  The Practice Room at Iyengar Yoga Asheville was purpose built to fulfill this vision.  It is a place for the practitioner to do their “home” practice with all the benefits of a well equipped studio. There is a large rope wall, a trestle, plenty of blankets, straps and bricks for members to use during open practice time.  Open practice is also an opportunity to learn and be inspired by fellow practitioners.  There is a lounge with tea service and a growing library for members that want to come in and study or just relax and escape from their busy lives.
We are here to help on the third Saturday of the month. Teachers are always present during open practice but on these special Saturdays we are there specifically to help you. This will be like a home practice with a teacher on hand in case you need some assistance. This could mean helping you create a practice sequence, assistance with a pose, answering questions…just there to help. (Please check the schedule for third Saturday offerings)

From Light on Life by B.K.S. Iyengar:
”I sometimes tell my pupils that the practice they do in yoga class is not, strictly speaking, yoga practice. The reason for this is that in a class, although you are undoubtedly “doing” and, hopefully, learning you are subordinate to the teacher…At home, on the other hand, it is your own intelligence that is the master, and the progress that you make is yours and will be maintained.”
