Yoga is the union of body, mind, and spirit.  This is a challenging path requiring steady and consistent practice.  Real progress requires more than just a class or two a week.  It requires near daily practice.  The vision of Iyengar Yoga Asheville is to help students of yoga progress on the path by providing the opportunity and inspiration to practice and study.  The Practice Room at Iyengar Yoga Asheville was purpose built to fulfill this vision.  There is a large rope wall, a trestle, plenty of blankets, straps and bricks for members to use during open practice time.  Open practice is also an opportunity to learn and be inspired by fellow practitioners.  There is a lounge with tea service and a growing library for members that want to come in and study.

Most people in the U.S. are familiar with gyms and gym memberships and they are aware that fitness requires regular attention.  For some reason these concepts did not transfer over to our thoughts on Yoga.  However, if you travel to India and study at the Iyengar Institute, time and space at the institute is provided for your personal practice.  This is also a time to learn from others and to inspire one another.  Open practice times are often crowded with good energy and motivation.

Yes, taking class is important but your teachers can't practice for you.  In Iyengar Yoga you are likely to be given detailed instruction to take you deeper and further on the path.  Some of these instructions take time and practice to assimilate.  A teacher can show you how to play scales on a piano but it requires practice to play music.  We understand that some will never aspire to do more than take a class now and then.  Yes, we welcome students of all levels.  Our hope is to simply inspire you to practice.
